Course Information:
When you look at an animal (dog, cat, horse, etc.) what do you see? Hair. Unlike humans, animals are densely covered with hair and fur. When there are problems with the skin, usually the first thing to happen is a loss of hair. Often, hair is also the last thing to normalize as the skin is healing. This course will be directed at the etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of hair loss in dogs and cats. Emphasis will be placed on the clinical application of the information presented.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of the course, the participant should be able to
  • examine dogs and cats with hair loss and formulate a list of differential diagnoses.
  • select and perform pertinent diagnostic tests to narrow the list of possible diseases and finally achieve a diagnosis for the problem.
  • formulate a treatment plan to address the problem(s) with a reasonable expectation of success.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VIN CE course is open for enrollment to veterinarians interested in deepening their understanding of dermatology and improving patient outcomes..
