American Association of Zoo Veterinarians (2009)
Welcome to AAZV 2009
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Tulsa for the Exotic Animal Medicine for the Clinical Practitioner Conference sponsored by the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians. For over forty years the AAZV has organized an annual conference to share their knowledge and the latest developments in zoo and wildlife medicine. We recognize that this expertise in exotic species could also provide valuable information for clinical practitioners and have developed this conference tailored specifically for the private practitioner in exotic animal medicine.
We have an excellent program coordinated by Dr. Deidre Fontenot and a wonderful venue. If you like what you learn, and want to learn more, please join the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians. You are welcome to join and to attend our annual meetings even if you are not a full time zoo veterinarian; all you need is an interest in continuing to learn about non-domestic and wild animals! The Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine is a wealth of information and is included as a member benefit, as is a reduced rate for the annual AAZV conference. Please see our website www.AAZV.org for more information.
This conference is the result of hard work by many devoted people. I would like to thank Dr. Deidre Fontenot, Dr. Greg Fleming, and all the lecturers for putting together an outstanding scientific program. I would also like to thank Dr. Rob Hilsenroth and Pam Brownlee for managing the logistics of the conference and registration. We also would like to thank the American College of Zoological Medicine for sponsoring our conference for Continuing Education credits.
Finally, I wish you all a weekend of fun, increased professional knowledge and friendship. Meet new colleagues, learn new techniques, and return home safely, ready to continue making a difference for the animals in your care.
Enjoy the Conference,
Tom Meehan, DVM
President, American Association of Zoo Veterinarians
