With 23 contributors, this is not just a textbook. First intended for students and instructors, the book is important for its detail of anatomy, cytology, histology, and the various organ systems. Also, this edition contains a CD-ROM for quick reference, including a histology atlas and many additional images contributed by the various authors. Additionally, there are many images provided by the family of Dr. W. E. Haensly from his extensive collection. Published in 2006, the information is current and informative.
From the publisher:
"This edition focuses on the most current knowledge of cell, tissue, and organ structure and function. All information has been fully revised and updated by the authors. Written with first year veterinary students in mind, it is also an important resource for veterinarians, graduate students, and others who require information on animal tissue structure and function.
Highlights of the Sixth Edition include:
- An interactive CD-ROM histology atlas, including more than 800 high-quality color images, each accompanied by identifying labels and descriptive legends.
- A two-page insert which contains full-color histology images.
- A comprehensive listing of suggested reading at the end of each chapter to encourage further study.
- Text organized by body region, allowing the presentation to emphasize comparative species information so students can better appreciate how species differ in regard to key structures."
