The CD-ROM comes with few instructions for use, although the label states that it will start automatically when it's inserted. That worked without problem. There is a toll-free telephone number on the disk, in case of technical problems. The program uses an Adobe Acrobat PDF format, which simplifies navigation. The search function and index allow quick movement between topics.

The CD-ROM is divided into eight chapters: 1) Introduction and Technique, 2) Abdomen, 3) Peritoneal Cavity, 4) Intra-Abdominal, 5) Alimentary Tract, 6) Urinary Tract, 7) Reproductive Tract, and 8) Anomalies. The text is written in an outline style, and handy icons in front of each statement classify each paragraph as Routine, Important, Key (very important), and Stop (more important than you might think).

There were a few typographical errors, but they were minor. The radiographic images, overall, are quite good; however, even with arrow pointers I could not see the described lesions in two radiographs. Instructions for doing GI and urinary tract contrast studies are well detailed. Adobe Acrobat's zoom function helps the reader view minute details. I like this CD-ROM. It is better suited for tutorial and review, though, rather than as a quick reference guide. This is partly due to the CD format. I still find it easier and quicker to pick up a book than to load up a computer program and search for a topic.

Teton NewMedia, Jackson, WY. CD-ROM, 250MB, 360 images.
