Tumors

This fourth edition has new authors and a new publisher, and reflects the vast amount of information available since the last edition twelve years ago. Diagnosis and treatment has improved immensely since then, and this book presents updated information in a way that is most useful to diagnostic pathologists, residents, veterinarians, and oncologists. The previous format has been followed, but there are substantial changes in text and illustrations. Some areas are updated and some are completely new. Information is provided in a form useful for consideration in the eventual diagnosis. Considering the clear need for accurate morphological diagnoses in veterinary patient care with the numerous treatment modalities that are available today to oncologists and owners, this volume will be the gold standard for years to come.

Twenty-four contributors from around the world assisted in the compilation of this book. There are 15 system-based chapters:

  • Skin and Soft Tissue
  • Skin Hemolymphatic System
  • Joints
  • Bones
  • Muscle
  • Respiratory Tract
  • Alimentary Tract
  • Liver and Gall Bladder
  • Urinary System
  • Genital System
  • Mammary Gland
  • Endocrine Glands
  • Nervous System
  • Tumors of the Eye

The book is liberally illustrated with radiographs, and microscopy/electronmicroscopy photos. The black and white illustrations in the book are supplemented by color images that will be available on CD-ROM. The numerous tables facilitate a clinical overview of each topic. The bold subheadings within each chapter make locating information easy.

Species discussed include the dog, cat, horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. (Emphasis was placed on those species in the order listed.) I could not find any reference to birds or exotics.
