This book is obviously intended for both practicing veterinarians and veterinary students. The book covers physiology, examination, diagnosis, diseases, surgery, anesthesia/analgesia, other medications, etc.
The first chapter, Ophthalmic Examination, is a road map to reaching a diagnosis. Topics include necessary equipment, optimal use of the equipment, and equipment use in the initial examination.
The diagnostic steps section, including vision testing and observation of the patient, is very thorough. Photos illustrate the techniques used with the various tools. Ocular imaging covers the use of B-Mode ultrasonography, radiography, MRI, and CT scans.
The ophthalmic surgery chapter has hundreds of drawings and photos illustrating every facet of surgery. Anesthetics and analgesics, and the indications for use, are covered.
Ophthalmic drugs, both systemic and topical, are thoroughly covered. There are several chapters on physiology of the orbit, globe, eyelids, nictitating membranes, lacrimal system, and the conjunctiva. The section on exotics is short, but filled with well-illustrated information. Appendices and indices include hereditary eye problems, Internet references, differential diagnosis lists, and much more.
I recommend the book for every clinic. I am sure you will refer to this volume frequently.
