This is the typical large-size European book, 11-1/2" instead of 11", which will make it stand out on the American bookshelf. Probably a good thing, for this book is a veritable powerhouse of hematology and transfusion medicine.
Hematological analysis is probably the single most commonly performed diagnostic test in small animal practice - so much so, that many practices have established in-house analysis facilities. Also, more advanced hematology analytical techniques have become available through specialist laboratories.
This book is a unique publication, written by internationally recognized specialists who bridge the disciplines of clinical pathology, internal medicine, and critical care. All authors are boarded in their field; several are double-boarded.
The book reviews the basics of sample collection, test performance, and interpretation for routine hematology, along with assessment of homeostatic function and bone marrow analysis. However, this volume is more than a clin-path manual. The specialists also discuss the diagnosis and management of a selected range of major hematological diseases specific to dogs and cats, and gives detailed practical guidance on blood transfusion techniques in both dogs and cats.
Each chapter is designed as a self-contained review. The book is fully illustrated with tables, diagrams, and color photos. (These are of particular value to practicing veterinarians.) This comprehensive manual is a valuable addition to the veterinarian's library.
