This book is not a primer on image interpretation. Prior experience in imaging will be an important factor in fully appreciating this book.  This does not, however detract from the value of this work-this resourceful publication fills a much-needed gap in the continuing education of the image interpreter.

The information contained in the book is designed to show the reader how to organize the thought processes in the interpretation of films. The process of learning how to reach a definitive diagnosis is often under-emphasized in textbooks. This book provides a major resource in becoming a competent interpreter of images.

Lists of considerations are provided for each sign. These considerations may then be compared to the history, signalment, and physical/clinical findings allowing for rational prioritization of real diseases. Schematic line drawings of many of the conditions are included to supplement the text.

The book is divided into sections representing various body systems for radiographic and ultrasonographic abnormalities. Possible diagnoses are listed in approximate order of likelihood. Conditions that principally occur in cats or dogs are indicated as such, although many of the diseases may occur in both. The liberal placement of illustrative drawings will facilitate interpretation, although they are not compared with actual radiographs of the same disease. All drawings are well-numbered to refer to the appropriate text.

An appendix of radiographic failures is helpful in providing the interpreter or technician with possible reasons for faulty radiographs and the remedy. Interpretation of radiographic images is a special skill that needs to be practiced and nurtured. This book will provide an important aspect of education on this diagnostic tool.
