Numerous books deal with dog and cat parasitology, but this is the first book to focus only on the cat. Parasitology in cats differs significantly from that of dogs, so this book should be a welcome addition to the veterinary arsenal.
Chapters include The Protozoa; The Trematodes; The Cestodes: With Notes on the Few Acanthocephala Reported From Cats; The Nematodes; and The Arthropods.
Within each chapter and under each listed species, the reader will find information on Identification, History, Geographic Distribution, Pathogenesis, Epizootiology, Zoonoses, Diagnosis, Treatment, Control, and Prevention.
The book is liberally illustrated with hundreds of images. The book does not limit itself to the United States and Britain. One may find parasites common to such areas as China, India, and Africa as well as those of the Americas and Australia. Diagnostic information is thorough, with a discussion of what to expect upon presentation and how to identify the parasite. Treatments (even experimental ones) and their expected results are well covered. Hazards to humans and other animals are discussed. Each chapter is followed by an extensive reference list.
This book should be on the shelf of every veterinarian. It is an excellent reference that will be useful in both the clinical setting and the classroom.
