Manual of Sheep Diseases

With the looming threat of spongiform encephalopathies, the epidemic of foot and mouth disease in England, and the tightening of regulations regarding feeding and movement of food animals, the British food animal industry is facing major changes and challenges. This book, an updated and expanded version of Outline Of Clinical Diagnosis in Sheep, is written to help British farmers adapt to the political and economic changes that took place in the last ten years. Although these diseases (and the economic changes) have not affected the food animal industry in the United States, the possibility is something that must be considered in the future.

This new edition is aimed at the non specialist veterinarian who wishes to update and expand his information on the treatment and prevention of diseases and poor production.

A great deal of attention is given to breeding problems and production as these are, of course, food industry issues. There are eight pages of color photos, along with some drawings scattered throughout the text. There is a list of abbreviations used in the industry, and an index. The book includes a history checklist. I really like this, as I have always felt that many excellent clinicians have been, at times, sabotaged by their own lack of an orderly history.

This would be an excellent book for the student. Because of its updates on diseases and treatments, this book would also be a good brush-up text for practicing veterinarians.
