This book, and its accompanying CD-ROM, are intended to help veterinary students acquire an enhanced knowledge and understanding of veterinary ophthalmology through self-directed interactive learning. Key clinical manifestations, terminology, anatomy, and embryology are provided at the introduction of each chapter and allow the reader quick reference to important information. The chapters are supplemented with a folder of cases with color photographs, history, signalment, and questions with interactive audio responses on the compact disk. Students are provided with a series of photographic slides and questions they can complete in advance of and during the interactive lecture.

The book opens with a complete ophthalmologic examination and diagnostic procedures, including relevant terminology. The next chapter covers the eyelids and conjunctiva. The following sections include the lacrimal system, nasolacrimal system, orbit, cornea, sclera, uvea, lens, glaucoma, vitreous, retina, optic nerve, neuro-ophthalmology, feline ophthalmology, equine ophthalmology, food animal ophthalmology, exotic pets, principles of ophthalmic pathology, ocular therapeutics, basic ocular surgery, and an index.

There is no Table Of Contents.

I fired up the CD-ROM and was thrilled with it. It started right up, navigation was obvious and easy, and the sound was clear and clean. The CD includes corresponding case studies, as well as multiple choice questions and answers; if questions are answered incorrectly, you are given a helpful explanation and directed to the section in the book that addresses that topic.

This book-CD combination is not only an excellent tool for the veterinary student, but would also be a good brush-up for the practicing veterinarian. I am sure that clinic technicians would also benefit from this excellent educational tool.
