This book is Out of Print. |
Aside from the format and objectives carried over from the original edition, the content is significantly different. The section on Emergency Care is completely updated to provide rapid access to diagnostic and treatment recommendations. Major sections have been added on prehospital management, initial triage, emergency procedures, and treatment protocol for specific conditions.
The following four sections focus on patient evaluation, assessment, and diagnostics. Each of these sections addresses clinical presentation. Laboratory Diagnosis and Test Protocols has been completely rewritten, and there has been considerable development of a reference section on laboratory testing.
Section Six, containing charts and tables, has a completely updated table on Common Drug Indications and Dosages, including generic and proprietary drugs, and includes specific conditions for which administration is indicated.
The Table of Contents (TOC) of topics is printed on the inside front cover and frontispiece for fast reference. The Index in the back of the book is more detailed. For instance, if you wished to reference 'Window Cleaner' you would find it faster in the back Index than in the TOC Index.
There are sufficient illustrations (photos and drawings) to assist the reader in diagnostics and radiograph interpretations.
Publisher's description: This thoroughly updated 8th edition comprehensively covers the management of emergency conditions, as well as hundreds of diagnostic and treatment challenges in small animals. The user-friendly format provides instant access to vital information, making it an ideal resource in emergency situations. Includes a section dedicated to the clinical evaluation of patients using both organized body systems and problems list approaches. It also offers guidance on clinical signs and symptoms, laboratory tests, diagnosis, and treatment.
The topics are largely alphabetical, with the signalment printed on the top of the page for flip-through location.
The one disappointment was reading the term "Pocket Pet" in a veterinary publication. This pet-shop term is, in my opinion, less than professional.
