Intended for the pathology student, this volume integrates the concepts of pathology into clinical medicine. The chapters on cellular degeneration and necrosis, inflammation, thrombosis, hemodynamic disorders, and neoplasia have been reconstructed to include the latest in scientific information. Also, there are new chapters on Infectious Disease; Nutritional and Metabolic Diseases; Ecosystems and Environmental Pathology; and Forensic Pathology and Bioterrorism.
This book educates the reader not only in pathology on a cellular level, but also on the sampling and observation during gross necropsy. Carelessness at this stage can result in useless information. It takes the special student or practitioner to keep informed on the scientific aspect of disease. This book will assist in that endeavor.
The first chapter (Overview: Injury, Death, and Adaptive Responses) prepares the reader with the language of pathology. Excellent color and black and white photos enhance the experience. Many people consider pathology to be something for dedicated pathologists, but reading this book will give the working clinician a greater understanding of the body processes -- not on just a cellular level, but also on an overall cause and effect upon the entire body. If you haven't brushed up on pathology lately, this is the perfect book for that purpose. It's easy to read, contains great descriptions, and is logical in its progression. This is one of those books that is not just for the shelf. The book is filled with pertinent facts to help with the everyday practice. I set out to do a review-read, checking for specific information and content, and ended up spending an evening just engrossed in reading the book. I recommend it for any clinic library.
