The first volume of this series in 1991 was written by Dr. John August, who wanted to develop a book that addressed key issues in feline medicine that were topical, practical, and controversial.

This new edition is made up of 103 new chapters with the addition of more than 100 international contributors. A section on Emergency and Critical Care Medicine appears for the first time in the volume and includes 13 chapters on diverse topic such as the new evidence-bases guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation in cats, treatment of hypertensive crises, and cutting-edge endourology procedures. Additionally, a new section in this volume includes a Behavioral Medicine with 6 chapters. The inclusion of this section reflects the growing body of research that helps us understand both normal and behavior problems in cats. Finally, 10 chapters on Pediatric and Geriatric Medicine were separated from Population Medicine and organized into their own section. A glowing body of work, this book illuminates the special physiology and needs of cats at either end of the life span. Chapters on anesthesia in senior cats and chapters on neonatal resuscitation covers information that is difficult to find in other sources.

In addition to the new sections, there are some new and exciting topics in the traditional sections. As always, the chapters in the book provide a mix of practical information and new ideas, even controversial topics, but always thing you will put to everyday use and material that will be thought-provoking.

This edition also contains more than 800 colorful images plus new tables, drawings, and algorithms that help you understand and interpret clinical concepts. An excellent addition to any veterinarian, technician, or anyone who works with felines, I enjoyed reviewing this book and was happy to add it to my library as a reference book.
