Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals brings the reader the building blocks that are needed for the fundamentals of learning the biology of the domestic and farm animal sciences. The first chapter starts simply enough with the cell progressing all the way through to the skin, bones, muscles, nervous endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, immune, urinary, digestive, lactation and reproduction system. At the end of each chapter there is a summary to provide the reader a “quick points” overview of what was just read.
Both authors are educators in animal science, which proves invaluable in the layout of the book; a book that contains over 1000 pictures, tables and charts. There is an extensive chapter on the muscles, with tables including a description of the muscles, origin and insertion, and the actions of that specific muscle along with beautiful anatomy pictures of the muscles to complement the tables. There is also a website for readers to access review questions, and power points of the books figures and tables; these can be downloaded and printed out, thus allowing the reader to use this material to be able to study from.
I would recommend this book to veterinary students, veterinary technician students, and to the veterinary educator.
