A beautiful book that consists of twenty-five chapters which explore the subject of rabies in Europe and the Mediterranean Basin from the insides out, this is a real find. Beginning with Lyssa Virus as described by Hippocrates in 460 BC and ending with current oral vaccines and the field applications of preventing this disease in wildlife – this book packs a powerful punch, delivered to anyone with an interest.

As a veterinary technician educator, this book is a wealth of information from the most trivial to the most scientific, written in a manner that is easily understood. While clinical technicians may not find this book particularly helpful – until…they reach the last two chapters. These chapters address ways in which Europe has attempted to control rabies in the 21st Century as well as the role of the international organizations in control of the disease. Because of the lack of clinical applications, the reviewer feels the book is a 2-star choice however as research source it is a solid 4, therefore let’s split the difference with a solid 3 star rating.
