The goal of this book is to bring students up to date on therapeutics, and to brush up the active clinician on the topic of drug therapy.

Section A: Pharmacology Guidelines, begins the seven sections of the book with a brief primer of some of the basics. Section B: is Empiric Therapy Pending Diagnostic Results (This section should be read first, and will set the tone for the rest of the book). Section C: is Therapy of Established Infections. D: is Antibiotics, E: Antifungal Agents. F: Antiparasitic Agents. G: Antiviral Agents.

The book changes quickly into the more esoteric treatments and therapies as related to the disease process. The remainder of the book is sorted out into various presentations, including therapy of established infections. From there, various species are discussed including conventional and alternative therapies.

Each drug section is alphabetized for easy reference and covers drug use, availability, contraindications, storage, stability, side effects, potential interactions, pharmacokinetics and use in pregnancy/lactation.

Specific organisms are listed alphabetically with drugs listed by generic name unless they are a combination product, in which case, brand name will be listed.

The book also provides other sources of information, the intention being to save the clinician time in referencing specific drugs for an active case. The text is presented in a condensed format and may not cover the detail of a more esoteric drug reference. The authors caution the reader to be aware of the continual evolution of drugs and be prepared with critical thinking and judgment by the clinician as regards updated formulae and drug applications.

Topic headings are in bold throughout the chapters, and pertinent points are boxed and shaded. There is an Index for quick reference to specific drugs.
