This fifth edition, though published in 2011, remains a significant addition to the field of pathology.
The first edition in full color, containing many photomicrographs, the book is a comprehensive overview of hematology, hemostasis, critical chemistry, urinalysis, cytology, and reference intervals in an accessible outline format.
The text leads the reader in logical progression through the chapters enabling the reader to easily locate answers to clinical questions. The format provides guidance with problem-solving in interpreting data, and includes a case-based approach to put the concepts in proper context.
This latest edition was fully revised to provide the most up-to-date information. Much of this book is highly relevant today, even though subsequent volumes have been published. For those clinicians who do not take readily to the pathologists tasks, this book is an excellent quick-reference for the veterinarian.
There is an accompanying website providing a quick reference for illustrations from the book and the references linked to PubMed. The site is still up and available.
The book is useful for students, interns, residents, and clinicians as well as pathologists. The text covers domesticated mammalian species, as well as (I’m sure due to Dr. Latimer's input) and excellent section on avian clinical pathology.
