This text covers equine clinical pathology that may be encountered by a veterinarian or technician through a thorough coverage of hematology, hemostasis, and immunohematology. The authors also devote several chapters to the disorders of the liver, kidney, skeletal muscle and the endocrine system as well as information on fluid analysis, protein analysis, cytology of the lower respiratory tract, and cerebrospinal fluid.
The book fills a need for a resource dedicated to equine pathology and will be valuable to anyone looking to understand what changes occur within certain disease processes and the pathophysiology behind these changes. While the text does go into detail on these areas, it falls short when providing examples of what may be seen through the microscope and histologically. It would be considered an all-in-one resource if it provided more examples of normal and abnormal blood cells as well as what may be found on a urinalysis, fluid analysis, and cytology.
While this text will be valuable to any equine practitioner, veterinary student, or technician, it may spend more time on the shelf then it would if it was a more complete laboratory resource.
