The authors and 23 contributors, present an up-to-date insight into the study of disease mechanism, origins, and progression. The book provides a single-source for the variety of diseases, from the cellular state to the presentation of an infected animal.
The text begins with such basics as terminology and diagnosis choices, examining the details of cell involvement.
The next topics are the various systemic infections: Vascular Disorders and Thrombosis; Inflammation and Healing; Microbial Infections; Immune Diseases; Neoplasia and Tumor Biology.
From that point, the topics address the individual organ systems and the genesis and variety of disease affecting them.
The Table of Contents is easy to follow and combined with the Index, makes single topics easy to locate. There are over 2,000 color illustrations, including color-coded drawings and charts, color photographs, microscopic and EM views. Numerous post-mortem views of diseased tissue help to illustrate disease processes.
The color drawings walk the reader through each process and enable the clinician to visualize the progression and appearance of disease. The photos are bright and clear and greatly enhance the experience.
There are useful topics not covered in some other books, such as: Disorders of Domestic Animals by Species, which should be a must-read when you buy this book. Throughout are illustrations to assist the reader in diagnostics, ie: a table showing the appearance of lesions in the integument alongside drawings of the skin layers illustrating the primary and secondary (deep) appearance of the lesion. This table alone should be valuable to the clinician making the decision whether or not to cut. There are many tables and charts throughout the book that will prove to be valuable references.
This is one of those books that will grab you and having you reading it in your free time. Keep it in your break room or on your desk.
