This European publication is a collection of scientific and technical monographs written by a collection of contributors addressing various issues involving animals – the possibility of antimicrobial resistance – something human practitioners have battled since the first identified case of MRSA. The subject matter, with a nod to public health, has explored various epidemiological components as relates to resistance such as monitoring, surveillance and risk assessment. Likewise, scientific and medicinal aspects are reviewed through modes of action, exposure (both human and animal) as well as containment.
Although this book is not one that would be used by a practicing veterinary technician or veterinarian, the veterinary student or veterinary technician student would be impressed and aided in their quest for knowledge on resistance. As someone who straddles the fence academically between veterinary technology and public health studies, I have cleared a place on my bookshelf for this books imminent display. It is just that important and therefore worthy of a 4 out of 5 star rating.
