Published in 2002, this is the second edition of this text. There are multiple choices for textbooks that discuss veterinary radiology and this one stands above the rest. It starts with a thorough discussion of ultrasonography, going into great detail on the machine, probes, and basic principles of operation. It then moves on to preparation and positioning of the patient. There is a chapter on biopsy and nothing is left out, allowing the reader an opportunity to scan the text, therefore garnering all of the details required on how to perform an ultrasound-guided biopsy.
The authors spend a great deal of time reviewing scanning techniques in excellent detail, including position of the probe and the order in which the scan should be performed. It covers the abdomen and thorax region as well as the neck, eye, and musculoskeletal system. The rest of the text is divided by organ, with more detail on technique, normal findings, and abnormalities. The detail the authors go into is impressive and each chapter contains multiple pictures of actual ultrasounds that point out abnormalities, as well as normal findings. These pictures serve as an excellent guide.
This text provides in-depth information making it an invaluable resource for any boarded radiologist or anyone pursuing their diplomat status as well as any veterinary technician who has a vested interest in this area of radiology. If this is your area of study and you have room on your shelf for only one book, make sure this is the one.
