This handy DVD is one that was an unexpected find for me as an educator. The video is 29 minutes long and is a great asset for use in an educational setting. The video profiles the many great career opportunities which exist for those interested in veterinary technology as well as veterinary medicine. Discussion includes what high school and those entering college can do to prepare for the rigors of veterinary education complete this gem.
Within the veterinary technician program which the reviewer is affiliated with, the DVD is used in freshman orientation as well as during the summer with visiting summer camp programs exploring the field of veterinary technology as a way of introducing the profession. Having interactive trivia questions scattered throughout the video for the audience to answer makes this anything but a “boring” video to watch. As a veterinary educator, the reviewer wholeheartedly recommends the video as one of multipurpose usage. For the practicing technician or those engaged in clinical practice, this could be shown in the lobby or waiting room as a public outreach for students that accompany their parents and pets to the vet’s office. As an added bonus, the DVD comes with closed caption capability and may be played in English and Spanish. The video was made through the combined efforts of the AVMA and FutureVet.net with funding by GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals. This is a solid 5 star rating on a 5 star product.
