This book is a home edition of the Merck’s Manual that was created through an educational partnership between Merck & Co. and Merial Limited. Throughout 1343 pages, readers can find information on the health concerns of dogs, cats, horses, birds and exotic pets broken down into nine sections. With the experience of over 120 contributing authors, this book is a good beginning resource for any veterinary technician student who is researching topics as well as pet owners struggling to understand the last conversation delivered in medical-ese by their pet’s veterinarian. This is perhaps the population to receive the books greatest contribution – the simplistic, common language used to explain any one of the hundreds of conditions listed within the pages.
Although this book will be sought out by those researching or trying to understand veterinary medicine, I doubt veterinarians will utilize this book to any degree; however they may be encouraged to have a copy on the shelf for their inquisitive staff members. For this reason, I gave this book a 4 out of 5 star rating for the use veterinary technicians and veterinary support staff may get out of it.
