From the moment you open this heavy text, there are charts, illustrations and tables chock full of useful information. Even the inside covers and the normally blank first and last pages contain tables for vaccine guidelines and chemical restraint. Purchase of this book includes access to its website which contains handouts, color photographs and algorithms as supplemental information.
The preface mentions that this new edition includes information for clients and veterinary technicians. There are over 150 client education sheets that are printable from the website as well as hundreds of Technician Tips woven into certain topics to help guide veterinary technicians with helpful hints involving procedures and brief explanations of particular exam or lab results. This edition also has over 60 new topics and 12 additional procedures not seen in the previous 2007 edition.
The book is divided up into Contents, Diseases and Disorders, Procedures and Techniques, Differential Diagnosis, Laboratory Tests, Clinical Algorithms, Drug Formulary, and Index. All section topics are listed alphabetically for quick retrieval. Each section is laid out identically to the next, making it very easy to find presentations, complications, prevention, and other information quickly. The only negative to this text besides its back breaking weight (so much information!) is that the pictures are in black and white, however, most are available in color on the website.
This text is a great overall reference for any veterinarian, veterinary or veterinary technician student, or credentialed veterinary technician. Everything you ever need to know about a disease, procedure or lab test is in this text. It is the perfect book for any personal or clinical veterinary library.
