In the preface of this book, the author stated his objective was to describe how to investigate, treat, and control sheep diseases seen by the practicing veterinary practioner. He fulfills this objective very well. The author speaks passionately about the importance of educating the farmer and maintaining the welfare of the animal.

This book covers many aspects of sheep medicine including husbandry, reproduction, lamb diseases, and diseases specific to each body system. The author discussed the importance of good husbandry and its impact on economics as well as the welfare of the sheep. Each disease discussed includes an overview of the disease as well as the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and control measures, and the economic and welfare implications of the disease. Each chapter also includes actual cases seen by the author with an in-depth discussion on the condition, diagnosis, prognosis, and final outcome (including treatment or post-mortem findings). There are a large number of pictures to allow the reader to see the changes discussed. These pictures include post-mortem findings which help the reader understand what can happen with that particular disease process that much more.

Not only does this book address what the veterinarian needs to know, but it also addresses the concerns of the farmer. That fact makes this book a valuable resource for veterinarian and farmer both. Anyone, including veterinary technicians wishing to raise sheep or learn more about the sheep which they already raise or care for will discover this book to be a valuable resource and will find themselves accessing it every day.
