This text is a good book for use in instructing new veterinary technicians and assistants on restraint techniques used for most applications in a veterinary setting. It comes complete with very nice pictures which illustrate restraint techniques used in veterinary medicine.
The book is broken down into sections for small animals, exotics and large animals. The authors have included objectives for each restraint method, guidelines and equipment needed for each type of animal as well as addressing any complications that may arise. This information is particularly useful when performing a restraint technique for the first time or when a refresher is needed.
The chapter on knot tying is imperative for those who need to restrain large animals. There is also a glossary which is helpful when communicating needs to inexperienced personnel as well as students and other staff members that may be involved in clinical life.
I would recommend this book for clinics to have on the shelf as a reference for newer staff, for general training on restraint, or as a review text for the seasoned technician’s referral. The clinical veterinarian will find this text valuable more in the training aspect and not the clinical.
