This book is an excellent resource for the clinic team performing their own lab work and diagnostics. The main concentration is on sample handling and machinery calibration. Normals are provided for comparisons both in anatomy and physiology. Clinical diagnostics are discussed and disease processes are explained.
There are separate chapters on blood counts, chemistry, urinalysis and advanced diagnostics. Cytology is also covered.
There is a DVD included presenting interactive cases to hone the skills of your technicians. The cases relate to information provided in the book so reference skills are also developed. There are photos to guide the technician through the DVD program. MAC users will need to have PC compatible software in order to view the slide portion of the program. The operator is prompted by screen prints as to how to proceed through the program.
The book is filled with charts and tables to enable logical record-keeping and checklists. Flow charts also guide the reader through the diagnostic and interpretive steps. Color illustrations of slides with explanations provide additional instruction.
Anatomical charts accompany the procedures to illustrate normal function. Flow charts are included in some cases to better explain how each system works. Each function is explained and illustrated in such a way as to teach the operator how to understand the process and evaluate the lab result. Suitable for the veterinarian, technician, student, and lab technician.
