Simian Virology was written with the intention to provide a structured, up-to-date, reference. Part One provides an introduction to primatology and virology. The primatology chapter provides multiple diagrams and tables for quick reference to nonhuman primate classification. In addition, there are short descriptions of old world monkeys, apes, and new world monkeys accompanied by photographs. The virology section starts with basic principles of virology and concludes with molecular technique descriptions for viral diagnostics. Part Two covers simian viruses and nonhuman models of viral infections. It is broken down into sections by viral genetic makeup (RNA, DNA). In addition, part two includes a section of experimental and natural infections of nonhuman primates with nonsimian viruses. The format of this book is user friendly and will be a valuable resource for professionals and students alike. I liked the book. It is well-structured with good basics.
