This second edition is nineteen years out from the first edition, and therefore, filled with updated information, including the use of more modern imaging and diagnostic techniques. The author has combined the treatment of the animal with the treatment of the image to reach a better understanding of the cases.
The book is divided into three parts; the approach to large animal neurologic cases; the clinical discussions of disease-caused syndromes of the nervous system and; the mechanisms and specific neurologic diseases of domestic animals, with cross-references to part II.
There are over 200 color photos plus detailed line drawings to illustrate the various neuro signs, and two CD-ROM discs provide videos of some of the described syndromes and signs. You get to watch the case in action with examples of postures and movements to visualize the definitions of clinical signs described in the text.
The subjects are primarily horses, but also included are cattle and sheep. There is one small reference to goats. There is a complete index to the videos and where to find clips that correlate to sections in the book. All in all, the book is excellent and should be in every equine practitioner's library, or his truck.
