With 28 contributors, this book should be one of the premier texts on imaging. Radiographs remain one of the most popular diagnostic screening tools for the thorax—relatively easy to obtain, but challenging to interpret. The authors put this book together with a panel of radiologists, cardiologists, internists, surgeons, and interventional radiologists from around the world to contribute to the information on modalities and their usage. The interpretive skills represented by this panel could make this book a classic.

There are newly instituted radiology technologies, but the majority of practicing clinicians are utilizing the more common machines, and this is where the interpretive skills will be most appreciated. The techniques and desired views are detailed with photos and drawings to give optimum exposure and correct positioning. The methods of obtaining any desired view are well illustrated. There aren't the newer digital images, but their absence is not an issue—the training is still needed in the traditional methods.

The book begins with all of the basics explained. Many of the views are illustrated with arrows, but many are not. The films are clear and clean, and points are enhanced with drawings. The book covers radiography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, histology images, ultrasonography, color M-mode echocardiography (including a breed-specific chart of reference values for dogs), and nuclear medicine.

The chapters are divided into thoracic systems and structures, and from there into anatomy and diseases. Each of the chapters contains numerous images of normal and abnormal structures or abnormalities associated with the disease.

As usual, the BSAVA had produced an excellent reference. This will prove to be one of the valued references in the clinic library.
