radiographic anatomy

This is an excellent book for interpreting radiographs. Notwithstanding the excellent quality of the films (some are digital), each one is accompanied by a drawing identifying every aspect of the picture with each structure numbered and referenced. Also included is a drawing of the positioning of the animal, showing how that image was obtained and marked with a target dot for focus. The sections (e.g., Forelimb, Hindlimb, Skull, Vertebrae, Thorax, etc.) are separated by Adult Dog, Juvenile Dog, Adult Cat, and Juvenile Cat. Growth patterns are shown for various ages and types of dogs and cats, and are separated by male and female. All views represent normal animals; no diseases are indicated.

This is one of those books that you can just sit and go through like a novel. The photos are clear and the diagrams are highly instructive. I would guess that the veterinarian in practice will use this book often and that any veterinary student will benefit greatly by owning this book.

The publisher states:

"The authors begin with extensive projections of plain radiographs, of skeletal and soft tissue anatomical areas. They additionally include a series of the more commonly employed contrast studies. Detailed observations of the normal range of variations seen in the juvenile animal, and between different breeds, are provided. The range of anatomical variations commonly encountered in veterinary practice are described. In addition, a selection of the more common radiographic "pitfalls" appears alongside the "normal" radiograph, aiding diagnosis and interpretation. The book is illustrated throughout with numerous interpretative line and schematic drawings.

  • Over 50 new figures have been added, and the quality of existing images has been enhanced
  • There are new guidance line drawings and tables for radiographic sizes
  • Detailed contents are included at the head of each section for easy reference."
