  • Peter J. Ihrke ACVD Resident Research Award, first place, May 2018. Highest-ranking resident abstract presentation in clinical research; North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum. Abstract Title: Use of the Health Belief Model to assess adherence to elimination diet trials in veterinary medicine.
  • Young Graduate Award, Noble and Greenough School, 2015. Awarded to a recent graduate who demonstrates leadership for the public good and commitment to serving others.
  • Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Dermatology Award, May 2014.

Special Interests

  • Continuing education for veterinary teams, food allergy pathogenesis and management, microbiome influences on canine and feline atopic syndromes, understanding and overcoming barriers to care in veterinary practice.

Current Research/Clinical Interests

  • Use of the Health Belief Model studies to assess adherence and persistence to immunotherapy use in veterinary patients – research in development.
  • Clinical interests include food allergy diagnosis and management, canine atopic dermatitis, feline atopic skin syndrome, and connecting dots for complicated patients.

Relationships/Spouse/Children/Pets

  • Married to Andrew Painter, U.S. Coast Guard BMC (retired). We have a daughter, Claire, who was born in 2018. We have two cats – Stella and Chips. Stella is a foster-failure who has feline atopic skin syndrome with severe head and neck dermatitis. We also have one dog – Pepper, a Boston Terrier. And, we share our home with numerous imaginary friends and animals that Claire creates.

Hobbies

  • Going for walks, hiking with my dog and family, reading for pleasure (new hobby!) and baking delicious treats
