In vivo Efficacy of Herbal Miticide Lotion; K U Natural Miticide against Sarcoptic Mange of Dogs and Cats

Objective

To study the efficacy of herbal extracted lotion, K U Natural Miticide, against the sarcoptic mange

Materials & Methods

The herbal extracted lotion, K U Natural Miticide (in patenting of Kasetsart University) storing at room temperature (19.2-36.7 oC) for up to 18 month were in vivo bioassay against the sarcoptic mange of 10 dogs and cats including puppy. The infected animals were diagnosis the infected skin areas by skin scraping and observation under the light microscope. The infected animals were soaked application on involved skin areas twice a week for 6 weeks.

Results

The treated animals were much less scratching after 2 weeks and the hairs became grow up after 5 weeks application. They were not observed the sarcoptic mites in skin scrapping after 4 weeks after application. The treated animals had a little salivation after perceiving the lotion odor at succeeded applications, and a little chilled in the whole body application puppy about 5 min during the solvent evaporating, but they had normal appetite and good health.

Conclusion

This results indicated that the K U Natural Miticide might be herbal commercial miticide products, since its storing for up to one year and a half at room temperature has still highly effective treatment for the sarcoptic mange of dogs and cats.
