Course Information:
This course is designed to provide in-depth knowledge and practical guidance on the unique dietary requirements of senior cats. As cats age, their nutritional needs change, and it becomes essential to understand how to provide them with appropriate nutrition to support their overall health and well-being. This course explores the physiological changes that occur in aging cats and how these changes impact their nutritional requirements. Participants will learn about specific nutrients and dietary considerations that are crucial for maintaining optimal health in senior cats.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
  • Understand the aging process in cats and the physiological changes that occur.
  • Identify the specific nutritional needs of senior cats based on their age, weight, and health conditions.
  • Explore the importance of quality nutrition in promoting healthy aging and disease prevention.
  • Recognize the common health issues and conditions that senior cats may face and how nutrition can play a role in their management.
  • Understand the role of hydration and water intake in senior cat nutrition.
Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate VSPN CE course will be open for enrollment to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. - actively interested in Meeting the Special Nutritional Needs of Senior Cats.

Course Agenda:

Week 1 (Real Time Session October 3, 2023): Meeting the Special Nutritional Needs of Senior Cats
This session will explore the physiological changes in aging cats and how they impact their nutritional requirements. Participants will learn about specific nutrients and dietary considerations crucial for optimal health in senior cats.
