This
intermediate course will be open to course is focused toward veterinary technicians and veterinary technician students involved with anesthetizing patients.
VSPN CE Course: Open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc.
This course is approved by RACE for veterinary technicians/technologists. (RACE program #22-15095).
Course Description:
This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of arrhythmias seen in anesthesia patients. The discussion will include common causes and the hemodynamic effects arrhythmias can have on patients. Conditions which predispose patients to arrhythmias will also be covered. Treatment protocols and guidelines will be reviewed.
Week 1 (Real Time Session January 12):
ECGs and Anesthesia
Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to
- Common arrhythmias seen in anesthesia patients
- Common causes of arrhythmias
- Clinical signs in patients predisposed to arrhythmias
- Drug induced arrhythmias
- Indications for and suggested treatment protocols to aid in assisting the veterinarian and attending to the patient
Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required
to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructor:
Dianne Hudson, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia) has worked at the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital since 1984. She has had a diverse career working in multiple departments including Small Animal Medicine, Equine Medicine and Surgery, Small Animal ICU as the Staff Supervisor in addition to her role as in anesthesia for the past 20 plus years. Dianne has had the pleasure of teaching ECG interpretation in a private practice setting, as a guest lecturer for Tulsa Community College, Murray State College and OSU-OKC veterinary technician programs. She has also designed an interactive computer based course covering anesthesia monitoring in addition lecturing on ECG interpretation at the Southwest Veterinary Symposium.
