Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. *The instructor for this course will be using audio which will require you to have a headset or speakers to listen. If you have any concerns regarding your computer's audio capabilities, please be sure to attend one of the Practice Sessions.

Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course will be open to course is focused toward veterinary technicians and veterinary technician students involved with anesthetizing patients.
VSPN CE Course: Open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians/technologists, support staff, veterinary teams, etc. This course is approved by RACE for veterinary technicians/technologists. (RACE program #22-15095).

Course Description:
This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of arrhythmias seen in anesthesia patients. The discussion will include common causes and the hemodynamic effects arrhythmias can have on patients. Conditions which predispose patients to arrhythmias will also be covered. Treatment protocols and guidelines will be reviewed.

Week 1 (Real Time Session January 12): ECGs and Anesthesia

Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

About the Instructor:
Dianne Hudson, RVT, VTS (Anesthesia) has worked at the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital since 1984. She has had a diverse career working in multiple departments including Small Animal Medicine, Equine Medicine and Surgery, Small Animal ICU as the Staff Supervisor in addition to her role as in anesthesia for the past 20 plus years. Dianne has had the pleasure of teaching ECG interpretation in a private practice setting, as a guest lecturer for Tulsa Community College, Murray State College and OSU-OKC veterinary technician programs. She has also designed an interactive computer based course covering anesthesia monitoring in addition lecturing on ECG interpretation at the Southwest Veterinary Symposium.

Tuition: $40 ($36 early bird special if enrolled by December 23, 2015)

* Students currently enrolled in and taking at least 2 classes or 5 units at an AVMA accredited or CAAHT approved Veterinary Technician Program may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the regular rate for this course (upon verification of student status).

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.

*Note: “This program (22-15095) has been approved by AAVSB RACE to offer a total of 2 CE Credits, with a maximum of 2 CE Credits being available to any individual veterinary technician/technologist. This RACE approval is for the subject matter categories of: Scientific using the delivery method of Interactive-Distance: (Web-based, Teleconference or Audio-Conference). This approval is valid in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE; however, participants are responsible for ascertaining each board’s CE requirements.”
