Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary support staff actively interested in small animal nutrition.
VIN CE Course: Open to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary support staff. This course has been submitted for RACE approval for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. The Veterinary Information Network (VIN) is RACE Provider #22.

Course Description:
This course is intended to review basic principles of canine and feline nutrition. A nutrient review will be provided outlining important aspects of carbohydrate, lipid, protein, vitamin, and mineral physiology and metabolism. Aspects of canine and feline nutrition will be discussed. A brief overview of pet food labels will be given. Finally, dietary options for dogs and cats will be discussed.

This course consists of two (2) 2-hour Real Time Sessions, supplemental library materials, interactive message board discussions, and a mandatory end-of-course test. Successful completion (scoring 80% or better) on the end-of-course test is required to earn a certificate of completion for the course.

Recommended Textbooks and Publications: About the Instructors:
Catherine Lenox graduated from veterinary school at the University of Missouri in 2007. She then went on to complete a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Colorado State University and a small animal nutrition residency at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2011. Dr. Lenox is also certified in veterinary acupuncture. After three years in specialty practice, Dr. Lenox joined Royal Canin USA in 2014. She is currently Manager of Scientific Affairs at Royal Canin.

Week 1 (Real Time Session June 29, 2015): Basic nutrient review/ digestive physiology pertaining to nutrients, Content and Pet Food Labels
Content: Nutrient Review: Pet food labels: Week 2 (Real Time Session July 6, 2015): Basic canine and feline nutrition & general diet options for dogs and cats
Content: CE Credits: 4

Tuition: Member $84 ($76 early bird special if enrolled by June 8, 2015)
Non-Member $157 ($141 early bird special if enrolled by June 8, 2015)

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.
