Practice Sessions: In order to prepare you for a successful experience in your CE course, we request you attend a Practice Session prior to the first Real Time Session. Level and Prerequisites: This basic course will be open to veterinarians and veterinary technicians/technologists actively interested in a review of small rodent medicine.

Course Information:
Small rodents are commonly seen in private practice, and many veterinarians have a limited working knowledge of this species. This course is intended to provide an in depth overview of husbandry, medicine, and common disease presentations by species in order to allow veterinary staff to feel more comfortable with basic rodent diagnosis and treatment. Clinical symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, and current considerations for prevention will be covered.

About the Presenter:
Sandra Mitchell was one of the first veterinarians to be recognized by the American Board of Veterinary Medicine as an Exotic Companion Mammal specialist. She has been treating small companion mammals since her graduation from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. Dr. Mitchell is contacted by veterinarians worldwide to discuss difficult cases. She is currently the owner of Animal Medical Associates in Saco, Maine; and sees referrals of rodents and other exotics from all over the northeast. In addition to her professional interest in rodents, she currently shares her home with 4 rodents, and has owned every species discussed in this class at one time or another!

  1. Enrollment qualifications: VIN CE courses are open to VIN member and non-member veterinarians. Veterinarians enrolling in a VSPN CE course must be a VIN member. Veterinary support staff must be a VSPN member to enroll in a VSPN CE or a VIN CE course open to VSPN member enrollment.
  2. Each enrollee must be able to receive emails from @vspn.org and @vin.com addresses. Email is our major form of communication with participants; personal emails are highly recommended rather than clinic/hospital email addresses.
  3. Each person is individually responsible for his/her own registration. To ensure that all information received is secure and correct, please do not enroll for a course on behalf of another individual.
