Skin ulcers occur in cats by fighting, injuries, surgery scheduled, infections and etc. Wound healing is an important phase of skin treatment, especially in surgery and dermatologic therapies. Meanwhile, use of drugs is important for management of skin wounds and promotion of healing. Some drugs that can be able to stimulate and induce the cells regeneration and angiogenesis are benefit for this subject and benzoyl peroxide seems to be one of themes.

In this study we used fifteen healthy stray cats. After skin examination and rollout of presence of skin parasites, we used anthelminthic therapy. One day after shaving, we make three surgery sections (3cm * 1cm) in the thoracic region for each dose of drug and control. After creation a wound, we used 3% and 5% benzoyl peroxide lotion for stimulation of wound healing. The cats hold in separated boxes and eat with hypo allergen food and treated only with amoxicillin for prevention of skin infections. Pathologic specimens acquired in first, 5th and 14th days of benzoyl peroxide using. All cats have Elizabeth collar and examined for wound healing every days.

Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be absorbed by the skin where it is converted to benzoic acid. Benzoyl peroxide is a keratinoplastic agent that has other effects such as focal anesthesia, anti pruritic, antibacterial, peeling and drying, anti-inflammatory action and follicle flushing. With attention to benzoyl peroxide skin effects, promotion of wound healing seems to be occurring with this agent. Comparative study between natural healing (control group) of skin and after usage of benzoyl peroxide in the pathologic examination was revealed angiogenesis and keratinoplastic effects. In the clinical study, complete wound healing with benzoyl peroxide were seen earlier than the natural healing. With collection of data and study with sample T-test by SPSS 9.01, there are differences between uses of benzoyl peroxide and natural healing. With attention to the results, we think bezoyl peroxide is a benefit agent for promotion of wound healing and this effect seems to be occurring with keratinoplastic and angiogenesis effects because this agent cause a promote angiogenesis.
