New on VIN!
Cardiac Disease Therapies Article By Our Own Paul Pion, DVM, DipACVIM (Cardiology):

Newly Updated:

Dr. Wendy Yaphe's Small Animal Course Material:

New On VeterinaryPartner.com:

Massive Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Dogs
Liver lobectomy is recommended, because tumor-related mortality rate was 15.4 times higher in dogs in the nonsurgery group, compared with the surgery group. Tumor control was excellent after surgical resection, with no local recurrence and a low metastatic rate.

Use of Signal-Averaged Electrocardiography in the Evaluation of Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy in Boxers
Signal-averaged ECG is a noninvasive technique that enables detection of abnormal conduction by identifying late potentials in the QRS complex, which are otherwise hidden in baseline noise during standard ECG. Late potentials are believed to represent areas of abnormal conduction that may contribute to reentry.

Evaluation of Risk Factors Associated with Development of Postoperative Ileus in Horses
There was modest evidence that pelvic flexure enterotomy and intraoperative administration of lidocaine may have reduced the odds of developing postoperative ileus.

Waterfowl Husbandry for the Avian Health Professional
Waterfowl have unique husbandry requirements, when compared to other poultry species. A better understanding of husbandry aspects (housing and feeding) can help to prevent diseases from recurring in the flock.

Malocclussion And Periodontal Inflammation In Young Dog Due To Rubber Band Around Incisors
I would bet the band was placed by a breeder. This is a once-common practice done by breeders to "move teeth" -- little did they know the teeth moved due to periodontal disease created by the band.

Nasty Clients
Isn't it a shame that sometimes we allow these people to suck so much joy out of life? And they're so good at it, you just know they've spent (wasted) a lifetime practicing.

Sending Drugs Across State Lines?
Federal law allows you to distribute 5% of your annual sales of any medication without registering as a distibutor. State laws might vary.

Staff Keeps Interrupting Me With Silly Questions!
The key is to really make it part of your clinic culture that the doctor is not the center of the practice. In other words, the team is really a working team and everyone is responsible for finding the answers when it is a basic question.
