'Tis the Season To Be Jolly, and For Pets To Be Naughty!
It's that time of year that owners (and the pets themselves!) think that their pet deserves that extra special treat! Many of these are very dangerous or toxic to pets. The Dangerous Foods Medical FAQ will help to make veterinarians and their staff more aware of the possible problems associated with feeding pets certain foods and what to do when it happens.

Comparison of white blood cell differential percentages determined by the in-house LaserCyte hematology analyzer and a manual method
The LaserCyte hematology analyzer (IDEXX Laboratories) provides a full hematologic analysis including a 5-part WBC differential(LC-diff%). We compared LC-diff% results to those obtained by a manual differential cell count (M-diff%). Good correlation between WBC differentials obtained using the LaserCyte and the manual method was achieved only for feline eosinophils
Detection of feline herpesvirus 1 DNA in skin biopsy specimens from cats with or without dermatitis
FHV-1 DNA can be detected in the skin of cats with herpetic dermatitis and suggest that the virus may play a causative role in the disease. In addition, the PCR assay may be useful in confirming a diagnosis of herpetic dermatitis.
Induction of parturition in dairy cattle and its effects on health and subsequent lactation and reproductive performance
The practice of induction of parturition in seasonal calving dairy herds is a reliable way of shortening the gestation period of cows. Costs associated with morbidity and mortality of induced cows and losses in lactation and calf production are offset by benefits of improved reproductive performance and more efficient management of the herd. The welfare aspects of induction on calf survival must be considered.
Computed tomographic quantification of canine adrenal gland volume and attenuation
Based on our study, Computed Tompgraphy(CT) is an effective method for assessing adrenal characteristics in the dog. Normative CT data are provided to allow estimation of normal adrenal gland size and volume.

How To Respond When Client Claims You Only Care About The Money, Not The Pet
No, actually I care about the fact that if I do the work without the costs getting covered every time somebody tries to use that line to avoid paying for the care of their own pet, I go bankrupt and all of my staff are out of jobs that feed their families and all of THEIR pets, and I obviously care about the pets of my staff more than you care for your own dog.
Suggestions For Pricing Injectable Sedatives: Price By Amount Of Drug Used, Or Use A Set Procedure Fee Regardless Of The Medications Used?
I am having a discussion with a co-worker about pricing of our domitor. How do most of you price it? Sliding scale based on weight? Three base prices small = $35, medium = 45, and large = 55? One price for domitor, and another price for the antisedan?
Radiographs Are Suspicious For A Thyroid Mass
One thing about thyroid masses is that they are very difficult to characterize, even with biopsy. There is a lot of variation within the mass and so the location of the biopsy could affect what the pathologist sees.
Carpal Fracture In A Puppy Whose Radius Is Continuous With Her Humerus
I think it's actually a little closer to ectrodactyly than radial hemimelia...the radius is there, it's just continuous with the humerus. But I ain't never seen nuffink like this before.
