Ultrasonographic diagnosis of portosystemic shunting in dogs and cats
Ultrasonography was 92% sensitive, 98% specific, and had positive and negative predictive values of 98% and 89%, respectively, in identifying PSS, with an overall accuracy of 95%. When a PSS was identified with ultrasonography, extrahepatic, intrahepatic, and multiple acquired PSS could be correctly differentiated in 53/54 patients (98%).

Based on recent findings chronic hepatitis in Doberman pinschers is most likely to be a form of copper toxicosis. Although there are several indications that suggest autoimmunity as well, this still remains unclear.

Necessary To Flush Ear Canals In Cats With Mites?
Flushing is not necessary for the treatment of mites. If ears are ever flushed, it should be done gently and with direct observation. Rupture of the tympanum, and middle ear problems, are always a risk when ears are flushed, particularly if the tympanum cannot be visualized prior to the procedure.
