When Sharing Is Not Nice
Providing and maintaining a secure community that protects the integrity of veterinarians is critical to all VIN members. If more than one colleague in your practice is using a single VIN account, you and your colleagues should create a group membership. Please click here for more information about groups on VIN.
Are Clients Asking About Poinsettia Toxicity?
Not clear on just how toxic this holiday favorite might be? Need a source of advice for your clients with green thumbs? Just have a need to know? Then take a look at the Household Poisonous Plant Book!
Holiday Gift-Giving Time!
Use VIN's Bookstore to find the perfect gift for your associates! (Can't pick THE perfect one? Give a Gift Certificate!) Hey! Do you have your eye on a special book or CD? Show the Bookstore to your family members, and let them know what would really make your holiday great! (After all, do you really need another Rudolph tie that has a glowing nose??)

Efficacy and Safety of Transdermal Methimazole in the Treatment of Cats with Hyperthyroidism
Serum T4 concentration was significantly lower at week 2 in cats treated with oral methimazole, compared to those receiving methimazole by the transdermal route. By week 4, the difference in serum T4 concentration between oral and transdermal groups was no longer significant.
Association Between Liver Copper Concentration and Subclinical Hepatitis in Doberman Pinschers
This study indicated that normal hepatic copper concentrations in Doberman Pinschers are less than 400 ug/g dry matter. Subclinical hepatitis was seen in 22 dogs, which persisted in only 6 dogs with increased copper concentrations, suggesting a role for copper in the pathogenesis of Doberman
Echocardiographic Estimation of Mean Left Atrial Pressure in a Canine Model of Acute Mitral Valve Insufficiency
Doppler tissue imaging is an echocardiographic technique that quantifies the velocity of cardiac wall motion. The longitudinal velocity of the mitral valve annulus during early diastole correlates well with the time constant of ventricular isovolumic pressure decay and is a relatively load-independent index of early ventricular diastolic function.
The variability of serological and molecular diagnosis of feline immunodeficiency virus infection
The PCR assays correctly identified 100%, 80%, and 50% of the FIV-positive samples, and 100%, 90%, and 70% of FIV-negative samples. Each dog sample was reported as FIV PCR positive at least once, and FIV subtypes A, B, and C were identified. It was concluded that PCR tests currently available for FIV infection are unreliable, with highly variable sensitivity and specificity.

Scheduling Strategies
Not what you're asking, but one that always bears repeating ... raise your fees! You may naturally open up a few time slots, but still make the same amount of money.
Fractured Mandible, Tooth Bud In Pup; Bonding Teeth For Stabilization
Keep in mind that after day 50, virtually all mandibular growth comes from the ramus, so you do not have too much worry about restricting mandibular growth.
People With Endless Questions!
We actually sold squares in 2 minute blocks in one class, to see when our favorite classmate asked her less than intelligent question. My all time favorite question was when she asked if it was ok to euthanize people during triage, if we knew they would not live ...
In and Out in 20 Minutes?
What you want to avoid is time in the waiting room, not the exam room. If they are in the exam room conversing with a tech on the topic at hand, they are not dissatisfied. If they are just sitting, they become unhappy within a very few minutes
