Also: New On VeterinaryPartner.com:

Association of Hyponatremia and Hyperglycemia With Outcome in Dogs With Congestive Heart Failure
Lower plasma sodium and higher plasma glucose are associated with a worse outcome in dogs with CHF
Treatment of Canine Mast Cell Tumours with Prednisolone and Radiotherapy
The combination of prednisolone with radiotherapy appears to have a useful role in the management of measurable mast cell tumours sited on the head and distal extremities.
C-reactive Protein Concentrations in Canine Acute Pancreatitis
The day 1 C-reactive protein concentrations were significantly higher in the acute pancreatitis group (56.1 ± 12.7 ug/mL) compared with controls (2.8 ± 1.31 ug/mL). For the 7 dogs that had samples collected on all 3 days, the mean C-reactive protein concentrations decreased significantly over the 5 days of measurement.
Echocardiography in the Chinchilla
The goal of this study was to determine reference values for echocardiographic measurements in chinchillas and the effect of anesthesia on these measurements.

What Is A Coccobacillus?
Coccobacilli are bacilli (rods) that are short and appear almost round (like a coccus).
Importance Of Survey Radiographs Before Ultrasound
I realize that many people do ultrasounds of the abdomen without survey radiographs, but I never do. I look at the ultrasound procedure as being a special procedure. You don't do special procedures without survey radiographs. In our shop, I insist on survey radiographs.
Tachycardia ECG: Sinus Tachycardia Or SVT?; Digoxin Therapy
The way to differentiate whether this is sinus tachycardia or SVT is to do a vagal maneuver (press on the eyeballs) or a precordial thump. If this is SVT, it should "break" into a slower sinus rhythm -- at least for a beat or two. If it's sinus tachycardia, it won't change at all -- or it may get a little faster.
Lidocaine Patch For Lower Leg Pain In Horse
We've used the patches here in a wide variety of cases with mixed results. Some do great; some don't seem to be helped by them. Possibly another great tool for our arsenals, though, once we figure out how to use them better!
