About Those 'About This Folder' Pages...
A little birdy told us you'd like to be able to access your favorite links, consultant profiles and other resources on the 'About this Folder' pages without having to go to the Message Boards to find them.

We thought that was a great idea so we added all of the 'About this Folder' pages to the Specialty and Species Resources page in the VIN Library.

If you have any bright ideas or suggestions, don't leave it up to the little birdy...send them to Feedback@vin.com!

Are You An Early Adopter Geek?
If you are among the first to upgrade to Internet Explorer 8, you'll find that VIN Boards 2.0 and IE 8.0 don't like each other -- yet. Because IE 8.0 is currently in beta, quick fixes for bugs specific to that version aren't possible. While IE 8.0 is in beta, we suggest you choose Compatibility Mode.

  • Get Your FAQs Straight
The fastest route to an answer to your question is a VIN Database Search. But, because many topics have been discussed many times on the message boards, the number of "hits" you get can be overwhelming.

To help you, the VIN team of consultants (and other experts) continue to create up-to-date summaries (FAQs) of topics commonly discussed on the message boards. Save time -- check out the Medical FAQs, before you post.

The VIN Student Center: Your 24 Hour Study Buddy
Need to know the clinical signs of diskospondylitis or treatment protocol for status epilepticus? Find online textbooks & direct resources on infectious & other diseases in the Medicine section of the VIN Student Center.

Browse by disease, specialty or species. Use MyToolbox to get help, search the VIN Library or open the VINdex menu.

Thanks to the continuous efforts of the VIN community, the Student Center has grown into a resource to serve all VINners.

E-mail to Feedback@vin.com if you'd like to contribute to the Student Center and don't forget to share your VIN experience on your school message boards.

Endocrinology of pregnancy in the dog: A review
The respective roles of LH, FSH, and prolactin are still unclear, with considerable conflicting evidence among studies. However, it appears that prolactin is absolutely required, whereas LH is either permissive or facilitates corpus luteum function during pregnancy.

Nutritional supplements for pregnant and lactating bitches
This review covers the use of common nutritional supplements for the bitch and puppies.

Comparative efficacy of diminazene diaceturate and diminazene aceturate for the treatment of babesiosis in horses
The efficacy of diminazene diaceturate was demonstrated to be 80%, while diminazene aceturate was found to have 90% efficacy against babesiosis.

Use of acupuncture in equine reproduction
The benefits achieved through acupuncture treatment are thought to be a result of hormonal regulation, altered smooth muscle motility, and general stress and/or pain relief from musculoskeletal or environmental conditions.

    Suggestions for holiday gifts/bonuses
This year we'll do the money bonuses as I think they count on it, and are doing a pot luck party at our house. We also give them a Starbucks card when we have a little Christmas lunch where they give each other and us gifts (for some reason it's not combined with the dinner). I don't know if we'll be doing the fancy restaurant dinner again. I felt really used.

    Cage warmer
It appears that one would have to leave the cage door open in order to fit the hose from the machine onto the blanket. That doesn't seem safe, even if you tie the door shut. Also, if the patient recovers in a run,it seems like you would have to put the warming machine inside the run, cart and all--or again, leave the run door open due to the hose. I'd like to know how this is handled in other animal hospitals.

Diagnosing diabetes mellitus in the emergency room: what to do now and what to send to the referring veterinarian (rDVM)
I would have sent it to the rDVM for all the rest. That is his job and he doesn't love it when we start talking about chronic disease treatment in the emergency room setting.

Therapies for cat with lymphocytic plasmacytic stomatitis, diabetes mellitus and retained root fragments
Lots of good go home points in this case -- the importance of preoperative blood work, oral assessment with films, and avoidance of steroids in feline chronic gingivostomatits.
