Adverse events after vaccine administration in cats: 2,560 cases (2002-2005)
Although overall vaccine-associated adverse events (VAAE) rates were low, young adult neutered cats that received multiple vaccines per office visit were at the greatest risk of a VAAE within 30 days after vaccination. Veterinarians should incorporate these findings into risk communications and limit the number of vaccinations administered concurrently to cats.

Reconstruction of the urethra by use of an inverse tubed bipedicled flap in a dog with hypospadias
In dogs, correction of perineal (subanal) hypospadias via urethral reconstruction should be considered among treatment options. By use of an inverse tubed urethral extension, direct fecal contamination to the lower urinary tract may be effectively eliminated, dramatically reducing the incidence of ascending urinary tract infections in dogs with hypospadias.

Toxic pneumonitis caused by inhalation of hydrocarbon waterproofing spray in two dogs
The dogs of this report developed hydrocarbon pneumonitis following exposure to waterproofing sprays. Development of chemical pneumonitis in pet animals is best prevented by application of waterproofing sprays in well-ventilated or outdoor areas from which pets have been excluded. With prolonged hospitalization and considerable monitoring and care, affected dogs can recover from these exposures.

Factors affecting bacterial counts during preparation of the hands for aseptic surgery
This study was designed to compare the efficacy of four hand preparation techniques in removing bacteria from the hands preoperatively. The results showed that the four techniques were equally effective at removing bacteria.

How many techs does one vet need to run a full service busy clinic without feeling overworked? What is the normal vet to tech ratio in general.

Possible causes of cat's electrolyte imbalance; pyometra in cats vs dogs
Is there anything other than Addison's that can cause these electrolyte values in a cat?

Big, fat sog spays revisited: surgical technique tips, and good drawing of miller's knot
I spent some time last week drawing out the modified Miller's knot that I use, so I thought I would post it here. I recommend learning the knot on little things that aren't likely to bleed, then on larger things when you have the hang of it. It won't loosen once you've tightened it, so make sure your omentum and other things that like to crawl into your ligatures are out of the way!

    Search Tip:
With more information, the search is more likely to return the results you want: enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM. General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
