Answer: A Great Way to Spend this Sunday Evening!
Question: What is the QuizBowl? Join your fellow VINners and Rounds addicts Sunday at 10 pm ET (03:00 am Monday GMT) to show off what you've learned from VIN Rounds and you may win a fabulous prize (and these prizes are better than the ones you find at the bottom of your cereal box!)

Use the Rounds link in the Main Navigation bar to join the discussion. To discover what other interesting rounds topics are coming soon, see This Week's Rounds Schedule.

If you can't attend, be sure to check the Rounds or Front Page of VIN or next Tuesday's VIN This Week for links to the transcript of the discussion.

Now You See It: Now You Don't...
Newly added to the the VIN Library are these Dental Morphs, provided by VIN consultant Dr. Jan Bellows.

No giant robots or exciting car chases, but, these transformers are cool in their own way! More morphs will be added later so don't forget to MyStuff'em!

Thanks, Jan, for this latest addition to VIN's growing Multimedia collection!

Participate in Clinical Research Studies
Between the demands of practice and personal life, your precious free time (if you have any) is probably limited. Did you know you can contribute to veterinary research without leaving your home or office! Simply visit the Clinical Trials & Research Projects page to find a study recruiting patients. Stop back frequently by adding www.vin.com/research to your MyStuff or select "Clinical Trials" in the VINDEX.

Recently added trials include:

Texas Farm Radio

Clinical effects and outcome of feline permethrin spot-on poisonings reported to the Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS), London
In a review of 286 cases reported to the Veterinary Poisons Information Service regarding inappropriate feline exposure to permethrin spot-on preparations, 96.9% were symptomatic. Increased muscular activity (as evidenced by twitching, tremor, muscle fasciculations, or convulsions) was common and occurred in 87.8% of cases. The duration of increased muscle activity was long, with convulsions lasting on average 38.9 hours and tremors 32 hours. Recovery typically occurred within 2 to 3 days, but in some cases took 5 to 7 days. Death occurred in 10.5% of cases.

Clinical, neurological and clinicopathological signs, treatment and outcome of metaldehyde intoxication in 18 dogs
The most prevalent clinical signs were seizures, hyperthermia, tachycardia, and muscle tremors. Serum biochemistry abnormalities included increased serum muscle enzymes activities, acidaemia, and decreased blood bicarbonate. Treatment was symptomatic and supportive. The survival was 83 per cent.

Lomustine and prednisone as a first-line treatment for dogs with multicentric lymphoma: 17 cases (2004-2005)
Results suggest that concurrent treatment with lomustine and prednisone was well tolerated in dogs with multicentric lymphoma, but findings did not support the use of this combination for first-line treatment of affected dogs.

Samarium Sm 153 lexidronam for the palliative treatment of dogs with primary bone tumors: 35 cases (1999-2005)
Overall median survival time was 100 days, with 3 dogs (8.6%) alive after 1 year. Median survival time for the 32 dogs with appendicular tumors was 93 days, with 3 (9.4%) alive after 1 year. This was not significantly different from the median survival time of 134 days for a historical cohort of 162 dogs with appendicular osteosarcoma that underwent amputation as the only treatment.

Hydrocephalus surgery
I have a 17 week old female golden labrador puppy (14kg) with hydrocephalus confirmed on MRI. I can't find any published information on congenital hydrocephalus in breeds other then pocket sized breeds or Bulldogs.

ZeeDonk temperament
I am to some degree, embarrassed/reluctant to post this question. I had a client call me today who owns a 3-year-old standard donkey wanting to breed her to a Zebra via shipped semen. Is this as bad an idea as I think it is?

Surgical recommendations for dog with severe periodontal bone loss
This dog is four years old and has only had these adult teeth for three and a half years. This advanced periodontal lesion has not taken long to develop, so the odds of keeping it under control in the long term seem long.

    Search Tip:
With more information, the search is more likely to return the results you want: enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM. General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
