Double Rounds: Puppies and Kittens and Eyes - Oh My!
Do you have questions about treating cats with eyelid agenesis or corneal sequestration? Join Robert Munger, DVM, DACVO, Sunday at 8 p.m. for Feline Congenital Ocular Disorders and discuss these and other unique feline diseases.

Take a snack break and then come back for WAKE THE BABY! The Latest On Neonatal Resuscitation For The Dog And Cat. Late night C-sections can make even experienced veterinarians as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Join Joni Freshman, DVM, DACVIM, at 10 p.m. and learn some tips to get those puppies and kittens off to a good, healthy start.

Use the Rounds link in the Main Navigation bar to join the discussion. To find out what other interesting rounds topics are coming soon, see This Week's Rounds Schedule.

If you can't attend, be sure to check the Rounds or Front Page of VIN or next Tuesday's VIN This Week for links to the transcript of the discussion.

  • What the Herb is A-C-H-I?
In this instance, A-C-H-I stands for Alternative-Complementary-Holistic-Integrative Medicine. If you have an interest in acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine and other modalities, or simply want to browse some of the commonly used material on complementary medicines and techniques, you’ll want to check out the new Alternative Medicine Specialty Center!

Among the many helpful resources you'll find are FAQs, journal articles, client handouts and pertinent board discussions on herbal medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic procedures, nutraceuticals and nutritional supplements.

The ACHI Medicine Center can be found in the Species and Specialty area of the VIN library and on the About Page of the Alternative Medicine folder in the VIN message boards.

Keep your eyes peeled for more new information centers coming soon!

    New Content - Always!
Thousands of new and updated message board discussions, journal abstracts and other information resources are added to the VIN Database and Library each month.

Above and beyond what the VIN Content Team creates and indexes, many VINners create and contribute up-to-date summaries on timely topics.

Save time. Search the VIN Database, and check the Medical FAQs and the VIN Library (see MyToolbox) -- before you post.

Evaluation of pradofloxacin for the treatment of feline rhinitis
The organisms most frequently isolated or amplified pre-treatment were feline herpesvirus-1 (75%), Mycoplasma species (62.5%), Bordetella species (47.5%), Staphylococcus species (12.5%), and Streptococcus species (10.0%).

Electroencephalographic evaluation of gold wire implants inserted in acupuncture points in dogs with epileptic seizures
After treatment, nine of the 15 dogs (60%) had at least a 50% reduction in seizures frequency during the 15 weeks established as follow-up of this treatment.

Efficacy of dog-appeasing pheromone in reducing stress associated with social isolation in newly adopted puppies
Signs of distress, particularly vocalisation, were significantly lower in the dog appeasing pheromone (DAP) group on day 3 and throughout the rest of the study, and vocalisation during the night ceased significantly sooner in this group.

Mule cognition: a case of hybrid vigour?
This study provides the first empirical evidence that the improved characteristics of mules may be extended from physical attributes to cognitive function.

2007 pet food recall settlement details
The defendants, including Menu Foods, Nestle Purina PetCare Co., Wal-Mart, PETCO and others, have created a $24-million fund from which eligible consumers and/or pet owners may receive potentially 100 percent compensation for their documented economic damages.

    Mast cell tumor followup
My question regarding general lump protocol. Up to now we have always done fnas and i've had two burn me in the last two weeks, like this one, where i would have been much bettter off to have had a biopsy instead of FNA. But, to biopsy a 1 cm flat mass kinda makes me feel like...why not just take it off?

Continue to give staff raises during recession?
The question for you is whether it is worth giving the raise to make sure you keep the valuable employees versus not giving the raise and possibly losing some very valuable staff members.

Client compliance in two models of extraction pricing: one veterinarian's experience
I don't know if that's the difference or not, but I know that when clients say something about "pulling teeth" I take time to show the dental models of the root structure and to explain the surgical procedure -- and they seem fine with the concept of longer surgery time costing more than shorter time.

    Member Benefit:
    Veterinary Journals Online
When you SEARCH VIN, you scan nearly 2 million content items. Within this mass of information are citations and abstracts relevant to veterinary practice from thousands of clinical and biomedical journals.

In the VIN Library, you'll find a complete (well, likely a few have been missed) collection of citations and abstracts (and sometimes more) from over 150 core veterinary journals.

    Get More From VIN!
    Search Tip:
Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search:
    - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search.
    - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
For more help and tips on searching, see Steps To A More Effective Search.
