MyStuff-Your Online Filing Cabinet!
We've all been there... after a bit of tinkering, your VIN Database Search produced just what you wanted to know now -- and likely will want to know, again, in the future.

Keep your results at your fingertips -- when you search the VIN database, you'll notice the "Add to MyStuff" link associated with each search result. If you look at the top of your search result list, you'll notice the "Add Search Results to MyStuff" link that lets you save the entire list of search results.

Are you a power VINner who refines your searches by selecting (clicking the check boxes) the best of the best from your Search results and displaying them as a custom Search result (Display Checked)? You too can stash your gold by choosing "Add Checked Results to MyStuff".

Almost every information-packed page on VIN is MyStuff enabled - just click the RED HEART on the page or choose Save to MyStuff and you are on your way.

  • Do a Search; save the results.
  • Want to go back later and review something you found browsing the Library? Store the link in MyStuff.
  • Find a favorite page in Associate; save the link.
  • Create your own categories and subcategories to help you stay organized.

You are not limited to VIN Content! ANY internet page can be stored and categorized within MyStuff.

Imagine the power of having all of your favorite links available to you on any computer you use -- home or office or even on a friend's computer.

MyStuff is easy to use. For external links, just copy and paste the URL for the page you want to save. To retrieve your MyStuff, click MyVIN on the VIN navigation bar - your MyStuff is there waiting for you from any computer, anywhere in the world.

Participate in the Veterinary Wage Survey
There have been lots of discussions about veterinary wages and benefits for owners, associates, new grads and not-so-new grads.

This veterinary wage survey is intended to provide colleagues -- from one doctor practices to large multi-doctor practices -- with a picture of current veterinary wages and benefits.

If you and your fellow VINners respond accurately to this survey, it will be possible -- using new tools we have ready for you to test -- for you to not only *view* the results of this survey -- but to *customize the results* so they include only data from colleagues whose situations are most similar to yours.

The survey contains no more than 25 questions and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Responses will be summarized and shared with VINners. Thom Haig will also present some of the results in his presentation at the 2009 Western Veterinary Conference.

If you have any questions or concerns, email Paul@vin.com -- or participate in the discussion.

Food for Thought
Pet Food & Nutrition: A Necessary Review For Veterinarians by M.E. Smart, C. Haggart, J.A. Mills. --- a review of the current status of the pet food industry from a veterinarian's perspective. The authors discuss market features, regulation and non-regulation, the value of information currently provided to veterinarians and their clients and some of its consequences.

Pathology and toxicology findings for search-and-rescue dogs deployed to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack sites: initial five-year surveillance
Although search-and-rescue (S&R) activities in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks exposed dogs to a wide variety of potentially toxic compounds, to date, these dogs do not appear to suffer from higher mortality or increased pulmonary disease compared with nondeployed dogs.

Number, distribution and concentration of Australian veterinarians in 2006, compared with 1981, 1991 and 2001
Progressively increasing numbers of veterinarians will compete for a constant or diminishing resource - the dogs and cats of Australia. It seems likely that overt signs of oversupply will appear before sufficient numbers of veterinarians enter alternative forms of employment.

Pancreatic abscess in 36 dogs: a retrospective analysis of prognostic indicators
Elevated blood urea nitrogen, serum alkaline phosphatase activity, and rising bicarbonate ion concentration were each found to have statistically significant influences on survival to discharge. Twenty-two (71%) of 36 dogs died or were euthanized prior to discharge from the hospital.

Eye enucleation in a cow
Of course I screwed up and offered to buy the cow before I knew all of this info. So, I told her I will send it in to histopath, if it comes back SCC in brain I don't think I should have to buy the cow, obviously if not, I will. I just started working on cows. How do you handle these situations?

Testing mixed breed dogs for breed makeup
You could hear her jaw hit the floor. Turns out that when she had the surgical AI done (not here, thank God), they were also doing an american bull dog. Damn that was an ugly puppy as it got older. She tried to give it to me a few times...

Dog with unilateral facial paralysis: hemifacial spasms in dogs
Hemifacial spasm is an uncommon syndrome. It is thought to result from a facial neuritis secondary to trauma or inflammation in the middle ear. It can precede signs of facial paralysis.

Dog with pyogranulomatous dermatitis: what treatment options are available?
A dog presents with lesions that grossly mimic pyogranulomatous dermatitis. Many etiologies exist for this condition and their treatments are contradictory. Without further diagnostics to target treatment, is a successful outcome likely?
