Comparison of time-action profiles of insulin glargine and NPH insulin in normal and diabetic dogs
Time-action profiles of NPH insulin and insulin glargine in normal dogs demonstrated a clear difference between both insulin preparations confirming that NPH insulin is an intermediate-acting preparation whereas insulin glargine is a long-lasting preparation.

Treatment of esophageal spirocercosis with milbemycin oxime
Six medium sized mixed breed dogs treated with milbemycin oxime stopped shedding Spirocerca lupi ova after 3-44 days. Esophageal nodules disappeared in all dogs within 95-186 days and radiographic signs resolved within 85-127 days in the five dogs that were studied. This preliminary data shows milbemycin oxime deserves further evaluation for the treatment of spirocercosis.

Ketoconazole increases the plasma levels of ivermectin in sheep
Co-administration of ketoconazole induced higher plasma concentrations of ivermectin, leading to a substantial increase in the overall exposure of the animals to the drug. The use of a P-gp reversing agent such as ketoconazole could be useful tool to optimize antiparasitic therapy in the face of the worldwide development of anthelmintic resistance.

What if I base my treatment on VIN responses from a thread?
Hypothetically, what if a doctor bases a medical decision on a discussion he/she either read or participated in on VIN? Say this decision, although recommended by experts, then becomes part of a legal case and the associate replies that they based their decision making process not on medical journals/papers but on information from VIN. What then?

What is the ideal leptospirosis test?
The "gold standard" is culture of Leptospires from urine, however, this is difficult to do. Therefore, the PCR seems the best test for true infection/shedding of Lepto in urine.

Reporting possible abuse of a cat
I always try to remember it's not my job to decide if there's abuse or not. It's my job to decide whether it's suspicious.

What to do about an employee with a bad attitude: hiring staff with good attitudes
During the interviews with potential hires, I look them in the eye and tell them, "I don't ever want to hear the words 'that's not my job.' Is that going to be a problem?" I can't say that everyone actually notices when a job needs to be done, but they all know better than to complain when asked!

    Search Tip:
Increase the likelihood of your search returning the results you want by using PHRASES rather than SINGLE WORDS when you search:
    - Enter HEARTWORM ANTIGEN TESTS, not just HEARTWORM, if that's what you really want to search.
    - General terms like KIDNEY can sometimes be useful, but a more specific descriptor such as RENAL FAILURE or KIDNEY FAILURE is often more helpful.
